Why does my pet need a Safety Cone Collar?

Dogs and cats often need a cone collar to prevent them from licking and biting their incisions. While our Safety Cone Collars are not required, they are strongly encouraged. Stiff plastic cone collars are recommended over soft/fabric or blow-up collars as most pets can still access their incision with those on. This can lead to infection or opening of their incision (which can be a medical emergency and wind them up in the pet ER!). Possible alternatives to safety cone collars include Recover Body Suits, but be advised that pets may still lick/chew through the fabric and get to their incision.

What can I expect in making an appointment request?

  7. Receive a follow-up email/text 24-48 hours after surgery to check up on how your pet is recovering!

Can I schedule multiple pets?

Yes, but you will need to fill out a schedule request and intake form per pet. For timeliness, please bring all pets to your earliest scheduled drop-off appointment.

What if my pet is older than 2 years?

Pets older than 2 need to be approved by the doctor. Please email hello@huntprnvetservices.com to prior to using the scheduler.

What if I want blood work prior to spay/neuter?

Why does Hunt PRN Vet Services require doctor evaluation for short-faced breeds?

Brachycephalic dogs (such as French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, and Pugs) have a higher risk of anesthesia because of their unique anatomy, breathing mechanics, and stomach issues. They often require prolonged recovery and different peri-anesthetic needs, thus need to be scheduled appropriately. For this reason, Hunt PRN Vet Services will only perform spays/neuters on these breeds on a case by case basis; requiring doctor evaluation and approval before scheduling.
